Boston Higgs – Marketing on the Internet Chronicles of a Beginner’s Efforts to see if one can still Make Money Online

Okay, I now have live an article live for a niche market and one for a saturated market. Surprisingly (or maybe not so) I have had 12 views on the first SEO article, and with the new articles only going live a matter of about 6 hours ago, they both have got 5 views.

Maybe there’s a greater ration of interest contrasted with number of articles for the non-SEO topics than the SEO one…

Anyway, I’m certainly much more excited by these two new articles with these great results in a matter of a few compared compared to the results gained by the article running a few days already!

Hmm, I have to admit, getting started is difficult. Does it work, is my effort justified, who am I to succeed in this business and all manner of self-defeating efforts.

I’m battling against those thoughts. I want to stay the course and prove it’s possible.

Oh, and I earned a little bit from AdSense today too. Nothing major, but I’m just getting started and it’s a great start as far as I’m concerned. Thank you and keep em coming in more quantities more quickly!

    Yaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Okay, after a few hiccups sorting out Author names, my first of 4 articles has been approved. 2nd needed editing. Other 2 are still in queue.

Soon I should be able to report how much traffic the article generates. I’ve been hearing  a lot about Ezine articles being good for traffic and google love. So this is a bit of an experimentto find out for myself. To be realistic, I’m not expecting huge amounts of traffic as it’s hardly a niche. But I am going to experiment with some articles marketing in niche areas.

That said, I’ve slipped with penning more articles. My goal was to get another 6 done by the 20th. Still highly do-able, but I’m one of those people that have severe writer’s block to start off with. I suppose after knocking 10 of ‘em out, article writing’ll be a doddle for me to do.

So regardless of any traffic article marketing may bring, the exercise will still be good for my writing skills. Right now I know there’s a lot of room for improvement. And one of the keys to building a skill is to practice!

Yes indeedy. I have submitted another 2 articles. I now have 4 articles done. So unless I sit on my butt for a few days, I’m ahead of schedule or just need to make sure I knock out one artcle every 2 days.

Hopefully EzineArticles will be happy with all my submissions. Waiting at least a week only to be told to fix and presumably end up at the back of the queue isn’t something I relish.

I can’t wait to see what kind of results I get once they’re live. Hopefully as I’m going a bit kamikaze rather than taking a  staggered piecemeal approach to submitting articles, I’ll see some real fruit for my efforts. Hell, maybe EzineArticles will upgrade me to platinum member status while I’m at it for being a serial submitter.

That said, I do need to use other directories too for maximum impact, but I’m not in the mood just yet to write the same thing in a different way so that I don’t get the duplicate content penalised…

Random though. I wonder if the EzineArticles new affiliate scheme will involve turning the current free submission system into a paid submission one. The answer is probably already out there, but hey, I can’t read everything in finite time. And I haven’t seen any tweets about it. All the rage right now on there is about twitter and whether facebook may kill it with the opening up of its API.

Anyway, back on topic, now that  I seem to be able to submit articles I think I might start the 30 Day Challenge and go through it properly and completely this time.

I just submitted my first 2 articles to EzineArticles – Finally! I’ve been way slow with this.

Submitting to article directories was one of the first things I learnt about Internet Marketing, but I never did it. For some reason I felt the same kind of block, how to write it, how much content?

Ironically, while I have a site and blog in a very competitive market where any methods of generating traffic outside of paid advertising like adwords are welcome and needed, I never managed to type up and submit a few articles.

Well, today I created and submitted 2. I’ve just got to wait about a week now to see whether EzineArticles have any issue with them. Hopefully not. Then soon after I will hopefully see for myself how powerful EzineArticles really is.

I will report on any success the articles bring with matching readers to product.

I’m going to try to bang out another 8 articles over the next 14 days just for the hell of it. If any get rejected, they can always become blog content, or submitted to an alternative article directory.

I can’t lose by creating new content!

What can I say, this ad blows the competition away – which is is exact message and that it has been doing so for 25 years.

It uses a nice simple device:

Great looking ladies in high-contrast stand out red uniforms strolling down the mall with their “James Bond” hero styled pilot.

    Heads turning everywhere.

    Great backing track.

What helps make this ad great and delivers home its message that Virgin Atlantic is “still red hot” is its play on the nostalgia factor. It uses many devices popular in the UK in the 80s:

    • The Miners’ Strike
    • Asteroids video arcade machine
    • Our Price (Later virgin rebranded “V Shop” in early 200s before vanishing.)
    • Police wearing helmets and other dress styles and hairstyles from the 80s
    • Madonna lookalike in “Desperately Seeking Susan” garb
    • Wimpy (They still exist, but they are rare)
    • “Brick” Mobile/Cell phones
    • Music from “Relax” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood as the backing track

Watch out for the humorous “Who do they think they are?” moment from two ogling unglamourous stewardesses in boring gray uniform. (Now what airline could they be representing? lol)

Does the ad still work well outside of the UK where some of the UK-specific references wouldn’t be appreciated?
